If taken to dealer the price is closer to $2000. Kind of high in my opinion for a premature thermostat replacement, as required on my A6 at 56,000 miles and my A4 at 70,000 miles.

Timing belt change interval is different on different year cars, later cars do state 90,000 miles - but if something goes wrong before then do you think that VW/Audi will help you? Note that these cars have "interference engines" with five valves per cylinder, expensive repair work if the timing belt slips or breaks.
