so, can a newish bmw owner do much of their own maintenance work (once out of warranty etc) at home? Are there equivalent cost effective shop manuals/parts manuals like WIS and EPC?
To a large extent, I agree with you that, technology is useful, so long as it is not there to obfuscate. I have an ee background, so the idea of having access to the computers is great. It's being locked out of a $3000 black box that is frustrating, or requiring a $6000 scan tool and $1000/y annual fee to gain access... not because I don't want to use my indy (he is great!) but because I want to be able to solve a problem by the side of the road in a rural setting if I have to.
As time passes and if Nevs can't come up with another real SAAB, we all need to find other options moving forward.
