I also qualified my post by stating "newer BMW's". If you're talking about replacing a 10-yr old battery in your 325i, I'm really going out on a limb and assuming that your BMW is at least that old. So maybe you don't know what the "newer" ones require for battery replacement?
I just shared on the Other Cars Bullentin Board (why is this thread here, and not there) the experience my boss is having with the 2008 335i he purchased a few months ago. Valve ticking (apparently common complaint) and the control module for the hill-holder (or auto-hold, whatever it's called) is going out, dealer wants $3k to replace. Why does an automatic even have that "feature"?
I do admit to being quite envious of getting 10 years out of a battery. You can't do that with a 9-5.
