I graduated in may from Syracuse. Spent my freshman year in their business school, decent school (although the business school was going down in national rankings during my time there), decided i wasnt built for the business world. SU's Maxwell School (political science) is #1 (i'm pretty sure) in the nation. The university is located in a residental area of Syracuse, and has a nice campus. You have to like winters though.
Currently I am at Carolina, just started my masters here in June. Amazing campus, a bit bigger than SU at about 22,000 people versus 17. Dont know if we have any sort of a poli-sci school here...but if we do, I would check it out, this is a really nice place to go to school. (plus there are lots of competent saab shops around, always a plus :)
Just got back from DC this long weekend visitng a friend at GW. if you like living in a city (tall buildings and small campus, versus SU which is more spread out), GW seems like an awesome school. DC is really a beautiful city, you'd never run out of things to do. Ditto for G-Town, although I'd probably get shot if anyone from Syracuse knew that I was promoting our #1 rivals. Plus, if your into politics, DC is the place to be.
A nugget of advice: wherever you choose to go, I would recommend a university, a place that has numerous "schools or colleges" contained within it. This gives you the benefit of having a more focused group of peers within your major/school, so you dont feel lost, and have a core group of people that you see often. It also allows you some alternative options in case you find out that your first choice for a major is not working for you. I am VERY glad i didnt go to Clarkson University for business (I was *this* close), because when i figured out that business wasnt the major for me, i would have had to leave clarkson and go somewhere else because the only other program they have is engineering (yeck :).
Feel free to email me with any questions, I'd be glad to chat some more. Sorry this is so long, but i AM getting Masters in School Counseling, so this sort of thing is my bag.
Good Luck,
Brian
