Those who doubt tuners advice should do their own detailed analysis i.e. check out the paper and the foam up close and it will be obvious that it is signifigantly more difficult to pass air through the paper than the foam . Furthermore a particle of dust or dirt entering the foam medium may enter a hole on the outer surface of the foam , but will then hit and become embedded in the next "closed cell " of the foam that the particle encounters . If you are not into this type of detailed analysis then listen to someone like Jak , because experience coupled with passion and talent go a long way to ensuring that somebody is giving sound advice . Of course what I said here only covers 2 aspects of the entire air filter/housing issue and there are several others , each with its own set of variables which are dependant on the individual situation among other things .
