Paper(OEM) vs the foam vs the ploy spun filter (K&N) Posted by Inga [Email] (#2994) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Inga) on Thu, 15 Sep 2005 08:18:48 In Reply to: Is K&N bad for AMM ?, LB, Tue, 13 Sep 2005 23:10:45 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The paper filter from the start is the highest efficacy filter. But it will be the most restive from the start too and becomes even more restrictive over time. The foam and poly sting bond filter are less restive in the beginning and become more efficient over time in use. These are just the facts about filters. With any filter. Car, home, place of work or where ever!
The trick here is to remove the contaminants and not restrict the airflow. So think of it as a balance. Can’t tip the scale too far over either way. The absolutely only way to remove all contamination from the air is to use a hepa filter. Which is 99.9%. The paper generally rates in at about 75% and the poly spun bond filter is even less somewhere around 65%. These numbers are general. Every filter manufacturer produces filters different. So filter to filter is going to show some difference. The poly spun filter will last the longest. Makes since. It won’t break down over time. (Water proof sort of) Due to the lack of efficacy of the poly spun filter K&N rec to use a little oil. To in sure I don’t get too much oil in my intake. I’ll spray the filter down. Then let it sit over night in my oil bucket. (I have a red ring on the floor already!)With a rag to catch the loose oil dripping off. Then if I did over do it. I’ll turn it up side down and let it sit some more. This is what I do. Course I don’t drive my hot rod to work every day. So I don’t have to worry about gas mileage, or getting to work the next day. That’s why I have my truck. It get me to work and tows my baby home when needed. (Hardly ever any more)
I’ve never hydro lock a car. I try not to drive in large bodies of water. It’s just not smart. But I understand sometimes you don’t have a choice.
The over all idea here is more HP. Hence the Performance bb. I mean come on. You jack up the hp then worry about making it to 1500000 miles. huh HELLO!!! Worry more about the head gasket or the turbo making it to those miles. If you want to tune the car great! Let's go fast!! You want a daily driver then get back to the other boards. I feel sorry for people like Jak and SD, and the other entire tuner sites. You people just crack me up.
The other joke I read some much about is fuel mileage. "Can I put a 3 bar FPR and continue to have 30MPG?? WTF? Do you even your doing? Why does anyone jack up their HP in their Saab then turn around a worry about the freak'en MPG. It's like saying hi Mr. UPS guy. I need this shipped this the fastest and cheapest way. Boy you'll get one hell of a look from that!
Ok I’m done. I had enough!
