is that they seem a bit illusory. Sure, you can get 310 miles out of a $90,000 Tesla S, and that can work great for commuting or short biz trips, but it's not all that good for a 'real world" car.
These examples are biased toward the way I use my 9K and my wife's 9-5, but the differences are huge.

I have a client in upstate new York that I can drive to in 6.5 hours. But they are 380 miles away. So stopping to recharge makes that a 8-9 hour trip.

I can't take a Tesla to our second home which is 725 mies away without a couple of lengthy stops, neither of which is convenient. There's no reason to turn a 12.5 to 13 hour drive into a 15-17 hour one just to juice the battery. Right now we do the run with one gas stop, even with a bike and a Thule box on the roof.

Plus, I'm not at all sure a Tesla can run at a sustained 75-80 mph, the speeds we normally run on those routes. I hear they don't do sustained speeds well.

Don't get me wrong. I think the Tesla and the EVs that are in or entering the market are great, but they have some real limits that make them second, rather than primary cars, at least for us. But $90K for a commuting rat seems a bit steep to me.

Just my $0.02.
