Alert me when someone posts in this thread:

I'm frankly not interested in what a carnival huckster like Elon Musk has to say.

Hybrids have an engine to take over when the batteries get weak, so battery life is not as critical as in a pure electric vehicle. I'm not particularly panicked about the future, just taking a very conservative wait and see approach especially when it comes to spending my own money. I fully admit to being an inveterate cheapskate. No doubt at some point electric cars will reach overall economic and utilitarian parity with ICE vehicles but I do not believe it is going to be with lithium-ion batteries.

In the meantime I have done extremely well picking up older, inexpensive ICE cars that are at or near the bottom of the depreciation curve. If you know what to look for there's a very good shot at not needing expensive repairs for years. So no electric car for me until I can take a similar approach for the same or less money. I'm not holding my breath. :)

I drive old beaters, but the wife will buy something new periodically and keep it for 10-15 years. We just went through this last year - hybrids and electrics were not even considered for a nanosecond.

New and improved are not necessarily the same thing. I'm not even sure what a so-called "infotainment" system is supposed to be, it doesn't even sound like a real word.
