DI went south over 2 yrs back at 58k, called SAAB about a free replacement, they said I HAD to go thru the dealer. I'm not fond of the dealer in Denver, having had lots of warranty work done there. So I removed the DI from the car, took the protective cover off, strode into the service mgr's and plunked the foul smelling thing on his desk and said "call SAAB and tell them I need a free replacement" or something to that effect. Got it, plus $ 100 gift certificate from Saab for my troubles (car had to be towed to dealer before they would replace DI for free.)
For those still choosing to defend or overlook the shortcomings of the DI used in the 9-5, two simple facts to keep in mind:
* Saab is the only production manufacture to use the type of technology employed in this version of the DI. The reliability drawbacks are too well understood for other makers to utilize.
* You will no longer see this type of DI after the run of the 2.3 engine is over.
* And well, a 3rd - even the board moderator has come around on the stark reality of this issue
