Dipstick bolt hex head removed Posted by Frak [Email] (#1515) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Frak) on Thu, 23 Jul 2015 07:12:58 In Reply to: Re: Dipstick bolt hex head is 19mm or 3/4-inch & right hand, Landjet [Profile/Gallery] , Tue, 21 Jul 2015 08:13:46 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I procured a 6 point 3/4in 1/2" drive socket and used a bunch of extensions to reach the dipstick hex head from the top. Lots of muscle, elbow, torque and risk required. Very slight rounding occurred on two points of the bolt head (extensions were a bad idea for me).
A thin layer of "surface" corrosion on both sides of the washer between tranny and hex head was the secret strength of my nemesis. I cleaned it thoroughly with a mini wire bush and applied anti-seize compound to both sides of it. I'm confident that no welding of anything will be required for future removal. I have had great success removing under carriage components that have been installed with anti-seize compound on threads and I live in New England.
The tranny fluid was full and so clean that at first glance I thought it was bone dry!
