No offense taken -- these things are hard to describe, and it turns out that the male end wasn't formed exactly like the original line. I always buy new OE slaves, and actually thread on the unit hand tight before I put them in, so it was a different kind of repair from what you were doing.
We have a special purpose forming tool to make brake lines that molds the ends now, so I actually reshape the ends before they are installed with the new aftermarket hoses as they are made differently from OE now. Quality sucks.
I was going to suggest that you just loosen the two nuts on the firewall of the master cylinder so it can be migrated around to get that nut on more easily. The tight working space really makes it interesting and particularly with the ABS setup.
Glad you got over the hump and on the way. The next one will be lots easier :-)
