Long story short I am considering building a house in NJ. Back in the day people used to buy a lot and then get an architect and a general contractor to build a home. I am sure people still do this today, but I am unsure of the process and how to finance such a project. I am only familiar with a builder where he buys a track of land and builds some homes, customizes them and sells to end consumers.
My plan is to find a lot I like and buy it. Lots aren't cheap so I would finance part of it. I then want to get an architect and I will work with a contractor to build the home maybe even doing some myself - how do I get a bank to fund this project visa via a mortgage on what I am going to build?
Any input is helpful....Also -- Am I crazy? Will this save money?
