Its hard finding what I want and I do believe I will stay here for at least 10-15 years. We have looked at many houses from Watchung west off 78. We drove through those areas closer (Chatham, Summit etc.) and my wife didn't like the areas for some reason. I want at least .5 acres, more like 1 or 2 or maybe 5. I don't mind the drive or a longer train ride so we are targeting Warren, Basking Ridge, Bernards, Readington out west as far as Clinton. I like the tax rate in most of those towns with the exception of Clinton. I got this idea looking at a partail tear down on an awesome 2 acre lot in Warren. I also looked at a house out towards Lebanon that was on 5 acres and was a just awesome, but the layout wouldn't work for us. It was a guy just building a house in his free time to make extra money. His specialty was Kithcens and Baths and owned a store. His house was of high quality - I liked that - it really shows that someone was maticulous about how it was being built.

All that said, plus the delay selling my home in TX, has me looking at land and planning to build. I know this way I will get what I want and I like the intellectual and physical challenge involved.

Everyone is confirming my thoughts. I am certainly going to explore this more. I think finding the land will be the hardest part.
