I got an 04 passat GLS 1.8T for now. Loaded its like buying an A4 for $22K. It is good transportation for the money given the miles I am piling on -- just got it 2 weeks ago and racked up 3500 miles. I almost bought a 9-5 Arc, but it was too expensive given the miles I am driving. Because I have no place to live and not a resident I was limited to buying a new car so I could register it in TX for the time being.
Whats funny is this drive from Philly to Jersey City has made any other commute seem like nothing. I hear you on the the infrastructure concerns - this was a big issue in TX. I really look for easy access routes. Chester is beautiful. I love it up off 206. Expensive though for some reason.
I will keep you posted!
