Buick sells almost as many cars in Red China as the US. Killing the Buick name would be bad for mainland China sales. Kill off Buick in the US but keeping it in mainland China would be akin to killing off SAAB Swedish design and plants and making SAABs in a number of countries other than Sweden.
Is it really a savings to kill off a brand?
Why not combine the back offices of Buick and Pontiac but keep selling them. One could have nearly identical Buick and Pontiacs from a dashboard and engine standpoint and just have different body styles.
