It ain't where its made that makes the difference, nor by whom. American workers in Toyota factories in Kentucky and elsewhere turn out very high quality reliable products that match the world's most efficient and productive auto plants. Ditto for Honda in Ohio, Nissan in Tennessee, etc.

GM's problem is that they design substandard vehicles and then allow substandard manufacturing processes to build them. And the workers are allowed to get away with mediocre work habits. Unfortunately for GM, what prevails is the old "us vs. them" mentality of worker vs. management, instead of the "we all work towards a quality product" mentality evident in Japanese manufacturing plants.
