Just got back from my 3rd vacation there in 18 months - I love the state, but I can't understand how anyone can afford to live there. My wife and I both have pretty good paying jobs and we have no kids but I still think we'd struggle financially.
From looking at real estate publications there's not much decent housing available for under $500k - for something equivalent to my average Ohio home (2200 sq ft, 3 brms, 1.5 acres) you're looking at closer to a million dollars - at least in the areas I've been visiting lately.
Gas is expensive, I hear insurance is too. Traffic is a nightmare so you must use a lot of gas if you have to drive any distance to work (which you probably do to find somewhere affordable to live).
I imagine wages are higher, but still, how do you manage? No vacations? No retirement savings? Two jobs?
Just curious!
