Was driving up the PCH but came off it on to 5 at Carlsbad - would have dropped in to see you if I'd had more time. I did visit Temecula (to visit some wineries) and that is a pretty nice place - didn't realize it was relatively inexpensive.
My vacation consisted of 2 days in pretty interesting cities (LA and San Diego), 2 days in the mountains (San Jacinto area), 2 days in the desert (Joshua Tree/Anza Borrego) and some time at the beach. What other state can give you that kind of variety?
I just have to try and find my wife a job there (mine is totally transportable) and convince her there's more to life than a big yard!
I would worry about buying real estate at the peak of the market, but I would have worried about that 3 years ago too and right now I'd be sitting pretty!
