"...why would you put the better tires on the rear?"
I've heard the same recommendation several times but I not yet heard the evidence. The theory is a blown tire on the rear will produce oversteer which is "harder to correct" than the understeer produced by loss of the front. It seems to me that one would rather have the two steering tires in good shape to enable you to make a correction.
Do we have an automotive engineer in the house (with data) ?
