you'd put the better tires on the rear because during braking with weight transfer you will loose traction on the rears and want better tires there. Yes, I know ABS and all that. I have several cars of each type, it's a no win situation. FWD has a few quirks that RWD or AWD don't... For starters, where do you put chains on a RWD car? The rear because that is where the tractions needs to be for locomotion. But if you sliping around a corner at sub walking speed, and the steering wheels are sliding towards the guard rail, you'd think chains on all four would be better, right? Hit the brakes and see what happens? and on the FWD, you'd put the chains on the front because that is where the locomotion is... oh and the steering too... but again on the slow icy corner... the rear end starts sliding to the guard rail... hit the brakes here and see what happens... again you'd think about chains on all four would be better. And on top of all of that, aren't the rest of you using the "band" and not real "chains" anyway? Do any of you have experience with the *same* car using chains and then bands?
