the local news said that he was *obviously* on the brakes hard, lots of sparks and all that. Many other drivers called 911 to report him speeding and/or being in trouble. The engine in that car if I read the stats correctly is a V-6 and 272 hp and 250 ish lb feet of torque. couple that with a smart transmission and it may not be possible to stop the car with both the throttle full on and the brakes too. Not being a two footed driver (i.e. right foot gas and left foot brake) on an automatic.. I can't ever remember being trying to run the brakes and gas at the same time. I've driven that road many times, it's the shortcut from my brother's to my dad's, and it can be busy, the link report says he was weaving in and out of traffic and so was apparently trying to miss cars, if you have both hands on the wheel and are standing on the brake, and the car won't slow down, and it's a keyless system that you aren't used too.. what do you do? Would you even be able to see the START/stop button? They did show how easy to bump shifter from drive to neutral but did it in the parking lot an walking speed, sure hope that they don't find any issues with being able to do that at speed and that it was panic and being unfamiliar with the car. Some cars when you slam from drive down to lower gears just ignore that request until the engine speed and gear ratio and road speed are within reason, not sure about to neutral.
Yes very sad.
