I've never heard of rusting suspension mounts rusting out on Corollas, either. However, the Tacoma line at our factory -- that's another story. I think rusty suspension mounting points is better than a frame that's rusting through!! Saw some warranty photos for that issue; man, it was ugly!!
And btw, I really do dislike the JD Power IQS. It doesn't tell you much about the problems; they're very vague. The rating system is flawed in ways I can't even describe. Plus, the issues are the same for almost every car: "A/C does not cool fast enough" "Heater does not heat fast enough" "Radio reception is poor" blah blah blah.
It can, on occasion, find design flaws, like the new Corolla's "poor clock location" (a selection in the trip meter). Somehow that defect scored like 14 pph. They've already implemented a running change to add a separate clock below the hvac controls to fix that.
