I can remember when Buicks were cool...... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Tue, 6 Oct 2009 07:30:14 In Reply to: Ouch!, CY, Mon, 5 Oct 2009 09:32:24 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Teh T-types of the late 70's and early 80's were great cars (for the time at least)! Buick became first US brand to combine luxury with sportiness across all models. The older Rivs were beautiful, the GN and GNX were built for stop light racing, and the Reatta is still a gorgeous classic design in my mind. But somehow that all got lost.....
The T-Types got dropped, the Reatta was dropped, the Riv got bloated then dropped, the smaller Buicks (was the Somerset the last small Buick?) was dropped, the Regal was dropped, even the "Deuce and a Quarter" (as luxurious as a Cadillac but not as pretentious) was dropped.
This left the brand with only the standard LaSabre and the Century - the two models most viewed as cars for the retirement set. Changing the name of these cars to Lucerne and LaCrosse did nothing to strengthen the brand's image.
The new LaCrosse has recieved outstanding reviews from all testers (although I think the pad above the gauge nacelle looks like someone threw a dirty diaper on the dashboard) but I question giving this car the same name as a poorly received predecessor,
The introduction of the T-Type models and the GN both brought life back to the brand in years past. This new car deserves much better than receiving the same old name.
Just my opinion of course......
