The lower mean temperature on Mars makes the number in fluctuation all the more significant: a 100Kelvin fluctuation set against a 150K average temperature (50K-250K) indicates much less greenhouse moderation than the same 100K fluctuation set against a 300K average temperature (200K-400K).
I'm certainly not suggesting that the government should get engaged in deliberate pumping of CO2 or even O2 into the earth atmosphere, as a form of terra-forming. I mentioned efforts to increase CO2 as equally invalid as efforts to curb CO2. Human decisions are about trade-offs. Whenever we put effort into something, something else is left undone. The opportunity cost restrains people from wanton waste; in fact, it's the opportunity cost itself defines what is "waste." I know (and I'm glad) that you and I share the view that government intervention in any of those debatable issues are quite unwarranted. There are however many proponents of AGW making the simple mistake of overlooking the opportunity cost of policy coercions. The bureaucrats set up to enforce CO2 caps and credits would also need to eat, drive around (by the looks of it in big black SUV's) and heat their homes (bigger than the mundanes) . . . and they create no productive for the rest of the society. Humanity suffered for thousands of years under those unproductive / counter-productive overlords pretending to keep the rest of the population from imaginary harms, until classical liberalism liberated people from those superstitions about 300 years ago.
