That's exactly how I feel about many AGW proponents, that they need to deliver far more convincing evidence before asserting their policy directives (political coercions). It was less than 40 years ago that similar alarmists were advocating that government should under take to deliberately warm up the air because the earth was entering an ice age (after observing a couple decades of declining temperature).

Science is not supposed to be complicated; that's why we have mathematical tools and basic physical "laws" to help us simplify the explanation of any particular applied scientific subject. In fact, among various theories that can equally explain observed phenomena, the simplest explanation wins.

The same mathematical tools and fundamental physical "laws" that help simplifying scientific theories also make science non-esoteric: people with knowledge of the mathematical tools can verify the scientific theories. Turns out, it's not just the non-scientific AGW proponents have been making outlandish claims. Alleged "Scientists" like Mann (of the "hockstick" fame/infamy) have been committing fraud by carrying out some very naughty torturing of the data. The non-scientific AGW proponents can almost be excused for being unwitting victims of the fraud.
