I've had Euro cars almost exclusively since 1968 and the difference isn't what it used to be. Domestics and the Asians have come a long way and while the Euro makes have raised the bar on sophistication and price, they no longer corner the market on any measure of performance, short of levels that can't really be achieved on public roads.
I find most of the domestics and Asians still lack some of the road feel of the Europeans, but with a few mods like better tires and shocks (that we do with our Euro cars anyway) they hold their own.
All the carmakers have very good build quality now too, so it's hard to say just how a Mercedes E-class is a lot better than a Caddy CTS. Especially in the U.S. where we can't really make use of the real speed potential of either car.
