The lines are harder to distinguish, aren't they? VWs made in Mexico and Brazil and USA for USA markets: are these European cars? How about the Mazda3/Ford Focus/Volvo50 which are built on shared platforms? Do the BMWs made in the USA conform to the same specs as a BMW made in Germany? Aren't Ford and GM installing features from their European arms into their USA offerings? Don't all manufacturers tweak their designs for the demands of specific markets? Why is Europe so full of car models--some from Asian makers--which we never see in the states? Are current Citroëns and Peugeots more or less "European" than they used to be?
So what defines "European"? Design specifications? Attitude? Corporate ownership? Factory location? Reputation?
