I owned older Japanese cars that were more akin to Eurocars of the time. The early 90s Acura Integra was one of those. Solidly built, had quick steering, was free-revving and crisp-shifting, and had tight handling (unless there was rain! look out). It didn't quite have the hefty chunky feel of say, a VW GTI, but it was very satisfying and dead-on reliable.
I also remember when Toyota made cars that went fast, could handle, and were RWD! The Supra and Celica and, also, the MR2, which was mid-engine RWD. Those days seem to be way gone.
