I'll put my 2 cents in. I'd rather spend $40k on the Audi A3 E-Tron, and get it now. I HAVE an Electric car, and a Prius. (And an Audi, Subaru, and Toyota truck.) Yes, there is a big line at the Kool-ade stand now. In 2 years, I believe the battery technology will be improved enough for longer range. Mr. Musk will be building the most optioned cars first. Not the first come, first served. Higher priced cars will sell first. That is what he has been doing, and will continue to do. I am taking a wait-and-see attitude, but might buy a used Model S instead of a new Model 3. Do I believe him? Well, I wouldn't bet against him. My Smart Electric is costing about 2 cents a mile to operate. Long term I expect to save 46% on my maintenance costs. I just have to want watch out for squirrels running out in front of me.
