A trailer was indeed considered but discarded for a couple reasons.

My tow vehicle is a 1984 diesel Suburban with 330,000 miles on it, and frankly it's in need of some upkeep... steering, suspension, tires. It's great for around town and short trips (like, track days and Home Depot runs), but I wouldn't feel totally comfortable taking it out into the middle of nowhere without some work. I have intentionally skipped doing this work because it drives, on average, 300-500 miles annually. Seriously, I usually put one tank of diesel in it per year in April. (2014 is shaping up to be a special year, as I fueled up in February!) I really would prefer not to put $2-$3k into a truck that has such a minimal, ongoing need.

If I was doing to dump a few grand into a truck, I'd just go buy a GMT400 or GMT800 Suburban and replace it entirely. That's a $4k-$8k commitment, and then I'd have a nicer, newer truck that still goes 500 miles per year.

Held up against a (guessing) $8,000 that I can sell in early/mid 2015 for six grand or more, a repaired or newer tow vehicle ends up being a less ideal use of money. Believe you me, I was *really* trying to justify buying one of the rare GMT800 8.1l 3/4 ton Suburbans. :D

Also, side note, going with a trailer makes this shebang really long. I'm eyeballing ~25' motorhomes, and a Suburban with even a modest trailer ends up blowing way past 30' and probably approaching 40'. I just don't want to take up that much space. :)

Sorry for the long-windedness, but that's the scoop. :)
