No joke, the thing which planted this whole seed in my head was a 1970's Hot Wheels Palm Beach. I've never been able to shake the idea of driving a rolling house around, and this year is my opportunity to do it.
I have seriously considered (and am still considering) investing in one of these rigs. My guiding goal in this exercise is to buy something that won't kill me with repairs and will allow me to cash out with a minimal loss. It's certainly reasonable to believe that a true classic motorhome will retain it's value pretty well.
The gotcha is that I am not going to throw twenty grand and this flight of fancy, and I don't want to end up with someone's stalled our restoration project. But, if the right GMC popped up, I'd probably snag it it. ;)
Granted, an Airstream would also be a solid choice, but an Airstream just wouldn't have the childhood memories wrapped up in it like a GMC would. I'd be willing to stretch and sacrifice to make the GMC happen, but otherwise I'll probably stick to something newer, cheaper, and more disposable. ;)
