I agree that unions have long since served their purpose and could safely go away (and soon please!), but in most companies, management is not exactly brilliant either. Very few top execs have much in the way of vision, let alone a plan for executing anything beyond business as usual. And when anyone further down the food chain offers new approaches the ideas are too often quashed if they don't follow the corporate line of thinking.
Executives certainly get paid too much, and too little of it is based on performance. Of course, that's the way many companies work. Why would you expect anyone to be acountable?
