As most Swedes and Brits buy Japanese cars, and most Swedish and British production are owned by either Ford or Nissan, the market is quite competitive even in Sweden and Britain. You do have a point about onerous regulations that make it unprofitable for the small players. That unfortunately has more than a grain of truth to it. Car making being intrinsicly an economy of scale game, the incentive to consolidate is tremendous. Whenever voters give the government more power than enforcing contract and preventing the rise of monopolies, the big money has a way of buying off the government to effectively create monopolies. That is a game that the so-called progressive movement either fails to realize or willfully whores itself. The end result of any "communalism" and "progressivism" that is not market-freedom promoting is inevitably a rigged market for the benefit of the big money, because ultimately only the big money can buy off the market riggers in the long-run, not the small and meak that the market riggers are supposed to protect.
