Complexity is a problem waiting to happen

I think the complexity issue on modern cars, especially with regards to electronics is going to become a big problem. First there's the point that complexity means more can go wrong, second that repair techs have to be a whole lot smarter than guys who can do mufflers and brakes. Or maybe not: they just change "black boxes."
The old saying of "they don't make them like they used to" has positive and negative sides to it. For instance, I'd much rather be in an accident in a car made in the past 10 years than in one made in the 10 years before that. Cars are just a lot better that way, and it's night and day between a modern car and one made in the '50s or '60s. (see link below)
But back on track here, I wonder if long-term electronic unreliability will make cars more disposable and *designed* to have useful shorter lives? While I recently bought a 10-yr old 9-3 (with 147K on it) for #2 daughter, I don't know that I'd want to buy a 10-yr old 2009 car in 2019 because the electronics might be headed south.
