what I meant was miniaturization has hurt the newer connectors etc. A good example is the SID - that connection to the flex is the problem + not easily fixed. The other area where cheapness comes into play is the quality of switches - most modern cars have stripped a lot of material out of the actuator + probably contacts as well in the name of cost savings... shouldn't be a big deal for the first 10 years, but I bet in the next 10 years they start to crap out + are not easy to replace...
In contrast, the c900 is full of beefy connectors, but many of them are also terrible (eg the "edge" connector for the tail lights that causes all the wacky ground problems). The switches for the roof, windows etc, are very beefy + solid, can be disassembled/cleaned/reassembled... and there's lots of metal in the contacts... but why the #%&$ are the contacts un-plated bare copper!?! No wonder they have to be cleaned up periodically...
