Jonathan, If you reread your post, you are quoting from Mark Warner that " scavenging is almost none existing in design" I believe that Saab is an exception to turbo charge designed engines. I think their cam designs are built with cam lobe or how you say valve overlap differences. Cam design plays an important part. I dont think you can compare Saab cam figures with lets say Mitsubishi as they are as different as apples and oranges.
