From economics alone it seems used makes more sense. It's hard to overcome that heavy depreciation that happens the second it's driven off the lot.
I've been a new-car buyer for a while, in spite of that. I tend to keep cars forever. The one thing I'm anal about it I really want to be the person who puts the break-in miles on the engine.
The pessimist in me says that if I buy a 2 or 3 year old car, the original owner just knew he wasn't gonna keep it forever. That has to be reflected in the way he did the break-in. That's a really important factor, and it can't possibly be accounted for in an economic analysis.
