Yes, those are commuting miles. My daily commute (round trip) is right at 100 miles.

I usually leave my home at 5:15AM, and at that hour I can make it to work in 45 minutes, since it's virtually all highway miles. I work 9 hour days, with every other Friday off, so my nominal "quit work" time is 3:30 PM, and at that time, I can make it home in 45 minutes, too. But I often can't get away at 3:30, and the later I stay, the longer it takes to get home.

Still, I'm going against traffic, and using the tollway going around the south part of Houston, even if I leave at 5:30 I can still make it home in an hour.

My job is fun, though, working with great people, so I don't mind the commute. Especially when I consider where I used to work. It was a really bad environment, working for a guy who loved to scream at people. It was 15 miles away, but 30 minutes with traffic. I'll take the longer commute any day.

By the way, in the other place, I had a huge corner office, say 18x20 ft, on the 12th floor of a fancy building. For those familiar with Houston, the view was looking to the west on Westheimer Rd and to the north over the residential areas. The office I have now is probably a quarter of the size, but I'll take the smaller office any day, too.

(The pay and benefits are better in my current situation.)

In Houston, almost everyone drives 30 minutes or so, so the way I look at it, my commute is just 15 minutes each way higher than "average."

Have a great day!

Dave
