I don't find you statement to be so true. I sell you a new one for $35k and it's worth $20k after 3 years. You buy it CPO for $22k and after 3 more years it's worth $8k. Similar deprection. One would think that a car purchased used for 60% ish of orignal value would have somewhat proportially less deprection, but it's my experience that the actual dollar deprection is pretty similar or only slightly less for the used car. So why not drive a new car if the depreciation is gonna' be comparable?

Those numbers are very rough and arbitrary, but not untypical. A 3 year old car with 40k is very desireable. A 6 year old car with 80k hardly anybody wants.
