I think I got a much better deal with my 03 Vector by buying it VERY slightly used. It was only a year old and had just over 4,000 mileson it when I bought it, AND it was a CPO - to 100k - which was a huge plus for me. That 1 year and 4k and "used" stigma saved me close to 9,000 off the new cars (25.5k vs. 34k new at the time), PLUS i have a longer warranty than the new car.
I would never buy a car for myself with more than 20,000 miles on it because I just drive to much. I need to keep a car for at least as long as it takes to pay it off - so at least 4 years. Buying a car with more miles is looking at selling it with 120000 or more, which is already making me nervous.
I know its just my experience, but I bought a 92 Passat back in 1999. The car had 100k on it. I drove it in one year to 125k and it cost me nearly $5,500 in repairs, (to be fair that includes tires for $400 and a dent repair for $450), on top of gas / insurance / etc. I had spark plugs fail, piston rings fail, clutch fail, fuel pump fail - the car was in the shop constantly. That's why when I bought a new car i was ALL about the warranty.
Good luck
Nick
