I had Lasik about three years ago and couldn't be more pleased. I found the procedure a little, um, terrifying (you can actually smell your corneas burning) and my eyes were a little dry for a couple months, but it was all a small price to pay for perfect vision.
The better your eyes are when you start the more likely you are to not experience side effects (halos with night vision, etc.), so that should bode well for you. I didn’t have astigmatism so I can’t speak to that.
If your vision is still changing or deterioration that could be a problem, so check with your eye doc. I was told that it sometime it takes until your mid-20s for your eye sight to level out.
Based on my experience, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the surgery. Do try a find the best doc that you can – I was fortunate enough to have an early pioneer in the field in my area and I knew one of his colleauge’s sons pretty well. As with most surgeories, the number of times the physician has done the procedure is a strong indicator of success. Also, check with your insurance. My company footed nearly half the bill which I was thrilled with.
