I can understand using surgery to adjust for an issue with the lens. However, most of us have eye problems associated with just plain aging. And those problems only get worse with time as the eye muscles lose control, the lens stiffens, and the like. I don't think Lasik can help with that.
So if you've got the usual degradation of near vision that comes with age, and you get Lasik, what do you do in two or three years as your eyes continue to age? I've seen some reports that Lasik needs to be re-done periodically for those effects. Or, you need to add glasses or contacts.
Personally, I'm really leery of body modification. If there is something I can add, that I can also easily reverse - like taking contacts in and out - I prefer that to surgery. Just my preference - your mileage may vary. Also, the one constant of aging is that things change. If I need to have the Lasik redone, I probably won't go with it the first time.
Many aging eye problems are associated with loss of focus range. I don't know how Lasik helps with that. But that can also be my ignorance of it.
But I would ask those questions before I went under the laser - will I need to be back here in two or three years? How do eyes respond to multiple Lasik surgeries over the years?
