We have 4.5 billion years of it.
The difference today is that human activity appears to be accelerating some processes. And even if it is not, and the earth is warming up on its own, we still have to deal with the impact of a changing climate.
This can be higher sea levels, too much rain in some places and too little in others. How climate affects what crops can be grown and where. We have been dependent on a fairly stable climate for the past few centuries and societies, cities and towns have grown up based on this stability. But when things change that affect those locales and societies we have to be able to address those changes.
Does doing some "green" things help? Can be hard to measure at first, but the cumulative effect can't hurt.
