well, I'm a bit late here... but...

Having driven a GMC Acadia + being an avid cyclist, all I can say is vehicles like that are probably the biggest threat to cyclists (and even small cars): as a cyclist (or whatever short thing) NEVER *EVER* get in the massive blind spot of those things, especially on the passenger side... It is impossible for the driver to see you! (whereas, in a c900, it is impossible not to see you - it's a frigging fishbowl)...
lots of passive safety in the Acadia, but drove like a waterbed atop a pile of marshmallows... and can't see stuff around you... death trap imho (for others more so than the ones inside the thing)... probably not all SUVs are that bad, but it was ghastly... all imho of course! and yes, this is 2011 (2010 actually)...
