We had a 1971 Maverick, my second car, which amazed me in the snow and ice. Even on surfaces that seemed to be a problem for the 4WD pickups my neighbors owned, that Maverick would go. I never thought about it at the time, but I came to realize the narrow tires and relatively light weight with decent balance (for the time) worked well in the snow. Since then my favorite snow cars have/are my 2000 OG 9-3 (may she rest in peace) and my 2008 MINI Cooper S, which is a blast in the snow and ice. Both are relatively light cars. My 1977 VW Type 2 did well too, but you froze while driving it! My 9-5 Aero Sport Combi is limited by the big tire, ground clearance issue.
