Some answers:
1. I use my 9-5 Aero to keep the top in good conditions, when it is raining (often in Seattle), the convertible stays in the garage. When I take it out, the top is down and is quite nicely protected. Actually I just wash it along with the rest of the car. No problems so far.
3. You should use full synthetic oil. Most on this board prefer Mobil 1 0-40. If you find one that says it meets A3/B3 specifications, you should be just fine. There is some GM spec that you should meet too but I don't remember what it is.
4. For the suspension, check out GenuineSaab.com. I have their 22mm rear anti-sway bar (reduces understeer), their steering rack brace (reduces torque steer and helps the car track straighter without so much steering wheel input) and 6 point sub-frame brace (reduces cowl shake). All these are installed on my '03 convertible. The steering rack brace is the one I would recommend first if money is tight.
5. There was a six disk changer available, it went in the trunk and cost around $500. I might still be available but I'm not sure about that.
6. Mine came with the 16 inch wheels too. A few years ago, I bought the double 3 spoke 17 inch wheels that came with the sport package in 2003 (Saab Alu 36) and installed them with 215/45-17 Goodyear GS-D3 tires. A nice improvement in handling but it could have been as much due to getting rid of the original Pirelli P6 all-season tires and replacing them with good summer tires. If you do install 17 inch wheels you should stick to the 215/45 tires and have a Saab specialist use his Tech II programing device to reset the car to 17 inch wheels to keep your speedometer accurate.
7. Missing pixels is a common problem. My 9-3 SID is ok but my 9-5's needs to be fixed. I will be sending it to BBA Reman soon for repair. Their cost is under $100 so stay away from the one you found on EBay.
8. I'm not aware of any options for the center console but that doesn't mean there aren't any. Mine still has the original cup/change holder in it but they pop out so yours may have disappeared long ago.
