I did read your posted link and I have been educated on the differences between the ACEA spec and the API spec that we use here in the U.S. However, given that there is no objective evidence that the average full synthetic 5W-30 weight oil will do any damage to my 2000 9-3 vert I don't plan on changing the oil use in that vehicle. If the oil pressure generated by the oil pump on these cars with a 30 weight oil was so poor you'd assume that the oil pressure 'idiot light' would activate and it doesn't....
However, in my 2008 Aero Sportcombi I would never use anything but an oil that meets the required spec (GM-LL-A-025 - as listed in the Owner's manual) which means either Saab turbo oil (not sure what company makes that) or Mobil 1 Supersyn 0W-40. I'm sure there may be some other synthetics that meet this spec but I haven't found many avaialble here(even Amsoil 5W-40 synthetic for European cars doesn't list the GM spec although it does meet ACEA A3/B3 which is probably OK).
