I think that the owner's manual is not necessarily the last or even the best word on the oil issue. There is a reason that SAAB ultimately moved toward recommending ONLY synthetic oil. Of course this happened after the 2000 9-3 owner's manual was published. If one reads the article "Saab Owners' Convention Oil Sludge Seminar (Nines #290, November/December 2007)" found at the link below, I am not sure how the evidence re oil pressure is "misleading". As for every 5W-30 synthetic meeting ACEA A5/B5, that MAY be true. Most oils I have researched don't address the ACEA standards (at least on their labels). There has been research on BITOG that shows that one version of Mobil 1 xW-30 synthetic shears to less than 30 weight under high temp stress. SAAB also, IIRC, modified their definition of what constitutes "severe" driving to put most driver's under that category.
