So I'm at a bit of a hand wringing point in this job. I'm down to the timing belt and have the camshaft sprockets aligned w/ the gear-lock tools in place but I'm not sure the crank is where it's supposed to be. See the pic below, the crank pulley mark is aligned with the bottom of that upper tang off the block. FCP's TB video looks like it should be at the top of that tang.--See Pic Below-- Is it possible the last mechanic set the crank off 1-2 teeth? Am I being neurotically nervous here:)?
Too, my aftermarket TB tool that locks the crank to the water pump wouldn't fit over the hub of the WP shaft, it's a scooch to far forward, when on the crank. If I turn the crank back just a tad(maybe 1-2 teeth?) the yoke of the tool slips right into position on the WP and the crank timing mark aligns with the top of that tang...but then the cam sprockets are off by 1-2 teeth and the locking tool won't go in there.
Thinking maybe the mold line in the WP curved jaw of the tool was inaccurately machined I tried to carefully file it down but went too far..:( So I've ordered a new one as no local places had one to rent.
Any thoughts, tips reassurance or wisdom is much appreciated here :)!
I'm also looking at revealing and fixing an oil leak from the front end. It looks like the front main bearing (See Pic Below). There is relatively less oil around the pressure sensor so I don't think it's that. I also see some oil above the crank there on the left, below the Rear Head camshaft sprocket. I should know more on that when I get the TB backing cover off. Meanwhile I'll change the inner tie rod boots that have small tear's on the outboard end. Thanx All and Happy Motoring!
