head removal update, what's Nl carbon on pistons? Posted by thewheell22 [Email] (#2450) [Profile/Gallery] (more from thewheell22) on Wed, 9 Mar 2022 18:31:07 In Reply to: Re: Thanks! Thanx Anders.Good news is head off, new studs in with helicoil. There was oil build up under the crank sprocket (key in good shape after the challenge of breaking the bolt loose) so I've got that seal, but also all over the oil pump cover with coating on the front half of the generator and the back half of the AC compressor. The latter coatings are the thick soft oily carbon stuff you can scrape off. That's why it appears the cover too needs refreshing. I have new water pump, therm and a cpl of lifters for #2 that have been annoying and the location narrowed down with stethoscope. Just read the WIS for cleaning the oil screen and sump...jeez, remove the generator, disconnect the AC, drop the outboard front RH axel...sheesh! WIS calls for 'coat mating surface with flange sealer part..bla..bla...bla" but doesn't describe it. Does anybody know, is it like Permatex Oil Resistant? Coat both sides of the gasket?
For me, the learning curve is big, I'm lucky to have the time and wonderful neighbors who don't mind giving me lift here and there when needed!
This is a pic of the valves and pistons. Do these look like normal build up for this motor with 190K on the clock? thanx for reading and Happy Motoring!
